Highlighting her journey in real estate, she talks about how her connection to her community has been essential to her business.  Christina first got her license in 2006 and was fairly new to the High Point area. She loved the idea of having flexibility, but with young kids and the economy falling into a recession not long after, it was hard to find balance. Among 203 smaller metropolitan statistical areas, Burlington is ranked 14th, a jump of 22 spots from the previous year. This is also the highest ranking for small metros in North Carolina.The driving force behind this improved ranking is attributed to strong and diversified wage growth. Over the span of a year, wages in Burlington increased by 13%, and over five years, they saw a nearly 36% growth. This placed Burlington 11th and 18th in its size group based on these metrics. The growth in wages was particularly notable in sectors such as retail trade, transportation, financial activities, and professional and business services.The increase in ranking is linked to the city's decision in 2016 to enhance local economic development efforts. This approach has resulted in numerous successful projects, expansions of existing businesses, and the establishment and growth of new entrepreneurial ventures. Burlington's economic development director, Peter Bishop, attributes this success to the city council's commitment to investing more in economic development and its strong collaboration with the Alamance Chamber of Commerce.A key contributor to the city's economic landscape is Labcorp, Burlington's largest employer. Labcorp's $71 million investment in its aviation division at the Burlington Alamance Regional Airport played a role in the city's positive ranking.
